Revised 2011/12 team lists and schedules are now online.
Dear Current and New Members:
Welcome to the 38th season of the PROHL! Our hockey league is a fun league based on good sportsmanship and camaraderie. Please keep this in mind throughout the whole season so that we can do this again next year.
Please remember, when you visit any of our sponsors, to let them know you are grateful for their support to our league. Sponsors need to know we do support them and are grateful for their contributions.
Paul Plant
President - 2011 - 2012
Brian Searle has posted photos of some intermediate games from the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons. There is a link to the photos, BDS Photos, in the menu on the left
On March 22, 2010 we celebrated a mile stone at the Kinsman Arena. Can you imagine still playing hockey at 60, or even 70 years of age. John Cavanagh of CAVANANGH APPLIANCES hung up his skates after many years in the league. John not only played in the PROHL – Peterborough Recreational Old-timers Hockey league, but he has been a proud sponsor in the league. The league starts at the age of 35 and is always looking for new blood at any age.
But the major feat was not only was he playing hockey at 78, he was a GOALIE. Try putting on goalie pads and just standing - the weight is amazing. Now do it on skates and look good. John made it look like fun throughout his career.
John has played in several tournaments with his son and fellow players. Now that is true Canadian!!!!! He was given a special award last from Max van der Voet, out going president, Saturday , March 27, amongst many league players, and John received a standing ovation. John we salute you from our league – good luck, says Stephen Morgan in coming president.
Since our inaugural season of 1974/75, the Peterborough Recreational Oldtimers Hockey League has been the mainstay of adult recreational hockey in the community. From our initial six-team beginnings we have evolved into a 14-team, three division league. The league's philosophy of "fun, fellowship and fair play" has been the cornerstone of our success as we head into the 2009-2010 season. As we begin our 36th season, we are pleased to report that one of our original players, Jim Gillogly, is still with the league and going strong.
