John Cavanagh retires at age 78

At the 2010 Fun tournament, we celebrated a mile stone at the Kinsman Arena. Can you imagine still playing hockey at 60, or even 70 years of age. John Cavanagh of CAVANANGH APPLIANCES hung up his skates after many years in the league. John not only played in the PROHL – Peterborough Recreational Old-timers Hockey league, but he has been a proud sponsor in the league. The league starts at the age of 35 and is always looking for new blood at any age.

But the major feat was not only was he playing hockey at 78, he was a GOALIE. Try putting on goalie pads and just standing - the weight is amazing. Now do it on skates and look good. John made it look like fun throughout his career.

John has played in several tournaments with his son and fellow players. Now that is true Canadian!!!!! He was given a special award last from Max Van Doet, out going president, Saturday , March 27, amongst many league players, and John received a standing ovation. John we salute you from our league – good luck, says Stephen Morgan in coming president.
